Sabbath Rest -
So much of my life has been wrapped in striving to achieve. It spilled over into my relationship with God. Strive to achieve His favor and work to keep His love. Wrong, wrong, wrong! If it were possible, it would be my works and not God. The truth is in believing and receiving and entering into His rest.
God’s Word says, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”
John 1:12-13.
Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
To be “yoked” with Christ means to be united with Him, to be one with Him. It’s His life in us!
One of my favorite verses is Hebrews 4:9-10, “So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.” Jesus Christ is my Sabbath Rest. I cease striving to achieve because the work is done, as Christ said, “It is finished!”
The following is my expression of Christ as my Sabbath rest:
Weary and worn, I have found a safe haven.
Where my sin; past, present and future is gone.
I cease striving for perfection, His Spirit in me.
Abiding in His grace, a place of truth and light.
He calls me child of a King, royalty, joint-heir chosen, beloved and friend, held in His arms of love.
Never to be forgotten, graven in the palms of His hands.
He is Jesus Christ, my sweet Sabbath Rest.
