Waiting: A New Perspective -
Isaiah 30:18 ESV, “Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious (2603) to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy (7355) to you. For the LORD is a God (430) of justice (4941); blessed (835) are all those who wait for Him.”
Isaiah 30:18 TPT, “For this reason the Lord is still waiting to show his favor to you so he can show you his marvelous love. He waits to be gracious to you. He sits on his throne ready to show mercy to you. For YAHWEH is the Lord of justice, faithful to keep his promises. Overwhelmed with bliss are all who will entwine their hearts in him, waiting for him to help them.”
Waiting on the LORD. What does that look like? Is it waiting on Him? Is it waiting for Him? Or is it waiting in His Presence knowing He is with me in whatever I am waiting for? Waiting is not a passive word. It is an active verb. To wait means to look forward expectantly; to stay in place in expectation of; and to be ready and available.
Waits (2442) – chakah - God eagerly desires, longs, and patiently lingers to show grace and compassion
Gracious (2603) – chanan – to be gracious toward, to favour, to have mercy on
Exalts (7311) – ruwm – or rises up, God actively positions Himself to show mercy, grace, and compassion to His people, moving from a position of waiting to one of action
Show Mercy (7355) – racham – to have compassion, to love
God (430) – elohiym – plural, one true God, three in one God
Justice (4941) – mishpat – noun meaning just, kind, a legal decision, proper, God was declared to be the Judge who rendered justice faithfully
Blessed (835) – esher – noun meaning a person’s state of bliss, how happy, blessed, happy
If we are going to be ready and available or to look forward expectantly then let’s spend time in the presence of the One who loves us knowing He is with us and we are His son or daughter. I must confess, this is not something I do well. Many times, I find myself trying to figure things out or trying to get out of my circumstances. Maybe you can relate?
Waiting is not a time of worry, which is like rocking in a chair. We don’t go anywhere. We are stationary. It may seem we are going somewhere, but really, we aren’t.
Worry focuses on trying to figure it out and on the circumstances. The meaning of worry is to feel or experience concern; fret; to move, proceed, or progress by unceasing or difficult effort; struggle; strangle, choke. This isn’t healthy. Our bodies and minds experience the physical aspects of worry. So, if you find yourself struggling or feeling strangled or choked, then look to see if you are worrying about something.
Thank goodness for the promptings and nudging of the Holy Spirit to spend time with Abba. Because waiting in the presence of Abba will change our focus. It renews our faith and trust in Him. He gives us everything needed to live life.
2 Peter 1:3-4 TPT, “Everything we could ever need for life and godliness has already been deposited in us by his divine power. For all this was lavished upon us through the rich experience of knowing him who has called us by name and invited us to come to him through a glorious manifestation of his goodness. As a result of this, he has given you magnificent promises that are beyond all price, so that through the power of these tremendous promises you can experience partnership with the divine nature, by which you have escaped the corrupt desires that are of the world.”
He supplies His presence and power in our lives to enjoy Him and not get caught up in rocking nowhere. He has already deposited everything we need in us by His divine power. He has lavished it upon us. And He has given us all these magnificent promises. He is waiting for us to partner with Him and His divine nature. He wants to do it with us and in relationship with us. So, next time we get focused on our circumstances and things not moving in our timing, let’s stop and remember that waiting is being in His presence. And I need that, don’t you?
Waiting at first may be difficult. It is deciding to remain hopeful and blissful by focusing on Abba not on what we don’t see happening. It is also remembering that Abba wants to show you His favor, grace and mercy, and just maybe what we are waiting for we already have. But our attention is elsewhere and we don’t see we are already blessed and have everything we need. Remember we are walking by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).
By being in Abba’s presence, He empowers each one of us to walk by faith. He even gives us the faith. Worry sucks the life out of me. It physically makes me feel strangled or choked. How about you?
Waiting with Abba gives life and power. Being in His presence fills me with His divine power. He gives life. He is life. He lavishes it upon me. I want to be happy and blissful in waiting. And I want to physically feel free from the worry. And I can when I continue to let go of all the things and stuff and instead rely on, wait with, believe in, rest and relax in, and be in His presence.
