I have a friend who interacts with me on Facebook. He says he is an atheist, and he occasionally comments on things I have posted or re-posted regarding matters representing my faith or beliefs.
Most of the time, his responses are comments about things being unprovable and, therefore, unbelievable, such as the resurrection, reconciliation, and the indwelling Presence, etc.
I heard an interview this morning with Bill Vanderbush, where he commented on his new book, “The Sound of Your Blood.” (This is a great read, BTW!)
Bill was speaking about believing reality. I was fascinated by an illustration he gave, and it made me think of my friend.
Here is the gist of it:
If a man is sitting in a room filled with wonderful things with his eyes closed and says, “Wow, this room is empty and dark!” He believes and puts his faith in his delusion that the room is empty and dark.
If he chose to open his eyes, he would see everything differently.
He would see the room filled with light and many wonderful things for him to enjoy.
You see, something doesn’t become a reality, “provable”, because we say it is real.
Reality doesn’t become reality because we agree or believe it’s reality.
Either something or someone is real, regardless of our ascent or belief, or not real.
God doesn’t exist because we have seen Him, or we say we believe He exists.
He exists because He exists! Period.
One day, my friend will see Truth when he meets Him face-to-face, whether in this life or in eternity.
My prayer for him is that he would know and enjoy all of the wonder of the indwelling Presence sooner rather than later.
What do we miss out on because of our delusions?
What if we begin to practice asking Jesus some questions, then listen for His answers?
Are You in me, and did You bring Your Father and Holy Spirit with You?
How do you see me, and what do you think of me?
How do you see this situation (whatever the situation might be)?
Where have I sided against You and believed a lie about myself or any situation?
What if we listen for His answer, knowing the fact that we are loved by Love Who created us and everything around us with a love beyond our wildest imaginations, and He knows all of the things and loves to talk with us?
What if we choose to agree with what God says and not in our delusions?
What if we counted on the fact that there is not a face we can look into that doesn’t have the indwelling presence of Father, Jesus, and Spirit in him/her, including the face looking back at us in the mirror?
How would that change how we saw each other and ourselves?
How would that change the way we see God?
