Have you thought about why people have so many different
perspectives? Sometimes, it feels like we don’t even live on the same
planet! How is it that people can see things so very differently?
In trying to understand the mechanism for this, let’s take a pair of
eye glasses, for example. When we put them on, we are seeing through
the lenses. These lenses often have specific prescriptions that affect the
way the eye sees distance, light, color, clarity and more. The lenses
become the perspective through which we see the world. When we
remove the glasses and look at the glasses themselves, we see the thing
that is allowing/causing the perspective we have been experiencing.
Once we see the thing that is causing the perspective (institutions,
systems, cultures, family dynamics—mechanisms designed to produce
certain outcomes), we begin to understand the reason for our current
perspective.
Once we see, we can’t unsee. This is the shift that creates greater
awareness and opens our minds to see differently and, with growth and
development and expanding nervous system capacity, we can rise and not
collapse into depending on the lenses to lead us to judgement.
Prayer thought, “God, give us eyes to see through your lenses of
Reality and not through the lenses of the world.”
